Midday Bloom
In this work, I explore the tension between the structured form of a still life and the raw, untamed energy of nature. By combining the quick-drying immediacy of acrylics with the rich, luminous depth of oils, I am able to build a surface that feels alive—as if the flowers are still reaching upward.
The choice of a vibrant, green chartreuse background serves to push the deep blue of the vase forward, creating a visual vibration that mimics the intensity of direct sunlight. My goal was not to capture a perfect botanical likeness, but rather the feeling of a bouquet: its weight, its scent, and the beautiful messiness of growth. The heavy impasto texture invites the viewer to see the movement of the hand, making the act of painting as much a part of the subject as the flowers themselves.
